Ledići

At the end of a long and winding dirt road we reach the village Ledići. A tiny village frozen in time, left as it was after a devastating attack during the Bosnian civil war 30 years ago.

Burnt and smashed by shellfire, the houses stand as a painful reminder of the 24 villagers, victims of the internecine war between Serbs and Bosniaks that split Yugoslavia apart.

On the evening of June 3, 1992, the Bosniak forces from the neighboring village surrounded Ledici and attacked the Serbian village, forcing all the 70 people to flee. Not all made it out. For 20 years the village was a ghost town. Today six families have rebuilt their homes amongst the many ruins of the village.

After living 25 years in the Netherlands, Fuad Sahačic and his wife chose to move back to Ledići to rebuild their home. Sahačic expects to be done building their home in half a year.
